SOUTH SHORTS 2016 FILM NIGHT - THE FINAL

Come along for an evening to celebrate short films and their makers at the Denton Lounge on Thursday 9th June 5pm - 7.30pm.

We have three tranches of new short films to show. The first made by local school children and the second by adults as part of WOW workshops to celebrate 120 years of film in Sussex, a project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. 

The finale will showcase the shortlisted films from this year's South Shorts competition. A panel of judges have selected the best to be shown on the night. The evening will finish with
 prize-giving and a chance to mingle with other local filmmakers and film lovers alike.

South Shorts 2016


Welcome to the South Shorts Website

South Shorts is back to celebrate film making and local talent in and around the South East coast. 

South Shorts Film Competition – running for the third year – seeks to encourage and support emerging, amateur and locally committed filmmakers by providing opportunities to showcase and promote their films.

South Shorts accepts short films in all genres, up to 20-min long. The award categories include Cinematography, Innovation, and Story. Awarded films are selected by a panel  and win prizes. 

South Shorts is organised by WOW and Worthing Film Club in partnership with TVFP - the Television and Film Production Course at the University of Portsmouth.
Starting life in 2014 as part of the WOW, the World Of Words Festival in Worthing, the competition strives to promote local film makers in the South of England. South Shorts is also supported by Worthing Theatres and Coast Cafe.

Entry Requirements:
  • Films must be less than 20 minutes in length;
  • The films should be either made about, located in or by filmmakers based in Kent, Sussex, Surrey or Hampshire.
  • Films can be from any genre or style.
 Prizes: 
  •  At least four cash prizes will be awarded, plus other forms of support and advice to film makers
  • All longlisted films will be screened at a special event at The Denton Lounge, Worthing on Thursday 9th June with prizes awarded that evening at a special gala event.  

Prizes shall be given in the following categories:
  • Best Film
  • Best Cinematography
  • Most Innovative Filmmaking
  • Best Story
How To Enter:

1. Entry is free

2. Entries must be in the following formats: 

1 x copy Data disc Codec: H.264 or file type: . Mov.
PLUS either 1 x DVD playable in standard DVD player OR a link to website  (Vimeo /    Youtube etc) where the film can be viewed.

All discs must have following information written on them:
Title
Director
Contact number
3. All entries must have on a separate piece of paper the following piece of information:

1. Title
2. Name of Director (s)
3. Date film was made
4. Names of all crew
5. Names of all actors / character names
6. brief plot summary / description (max 100 words - to be used in our programme notes for all shortlisted screened films)
7. An explanation of how your work relates to the the South East of England (eg was the film made here / do you or any of the principle cast or crew live or work here / was it influenced in some way by the area? etc)
8. A brief explanation of your motivations or influences in making the film (OPTIONAL)

Longlisted entries will be contacted prior to our gala event.
Judges decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into once a decision has been made.
